Well, it all started when some guy on the internet began promoting an event on social media, inviting people to storm Area 51 to expose the presence of alien life. Nobody expected that a meme based on the comedic event was going to be used to initiate a highly successful dog adoption campaign.
While the event resulted in some troublesome encounters between the social media users and the government officials, an Oklahoma dog shelter aptly took advantage of the event’s popularity. The OKC Animal Welfare center asked their followers on social media to forget Area 51 and storm their shelter to adopt the dogs.
The shelter posted many pictures of the available dogs for adoption, dressed in alien costumes, and wittingly described the dogs as the best weapons to get protection against the aliens of Area 51.
The posts made by the shelter with the hashtag #StormOurShelter received thousands of shares, and many pups at the center found their permanent homes after the start of the adoption campaign. Many internet users have also contributed to the campaign by making donations to the shelter.
The shelter’s social media page says that their promotional campaign for the adoption of their dogs has been an enormous success, and the locals have responded in large numbers.
The staff at the shelter wrote on a Facebook post that the response to the campaign was just something out of this world. The shelter thanked all those people who took part in the event by donating, adopting, sharing, and supporting.
The shelter also wrote that it wanted more support from the local community and expected people to continue with the adoptions.
The shelter mentioned that the local community should show everyone that adoption is not a thing of some other planet by welcoming more dogs from the shelter into their families.
